PASSENGER CABIN - GREECEBOUND
Janis unbuckles her seat belt and turns to Melinda. She grabs her by the lapels of
her jacket and raises her off the chair.
Melinda is schnockered.
What do you mean, you don't have the scroll?
You've kept it in your briefcase for the past 5 months.
Oh, I thought you said where's a bowl?
If you want the scroll, it's in my briefcase.
Janis sinks back into her chair and breathes a sigh of relief.
It's gonna be a long trip.
Janis and Melinda spend the next two days flying. The DC-3 makes fuel stops in
Greenland and Spain.
The plane lands at its final destination, Athens Airfield, mid afternoon of day two.
Melinda and Janis exit the liner and make their way to the common area in the
airport. Melinda is suffering from the last remnants of a hang over.
AIRPORT COMMON AREA - ATHENS, GREECE
I'll go get the bags. You wait
here and look for our contact.
Okay Janis...Whatever you say.
With that, Melinda turns a non human color and her knees become like rubber. She staggers over to a trash basket and promptly throws up in it.
Are you going to be alright?
I'll be okay as soon as the
room stops spinning.
Now I know why they call
it a hangover.
Janis helps Melinda over to a bench and sits her down.
I'll be right back... Don't move.
Janis leaves her on the bench and goes to claim the baggage. Melinda, still feeling
dizzy, lays down on the bench, her purse dangling at her side.
Soon after, two oily looking men approch and circle the bench. One leans down
and examines Melinda's purse while the other watches the door. As the man starts
to open her purse, Janis approches from behind to once again rescues Melinda.
Now that's no way to treat a lady...
Startled by Janis' sudden appearance, the two men skulk off.
Come on Melinda... Get up.
Let's get you to the hotel.
Janis pulls Melinda to her feet and then picks up the baggage. They walk outside the building and to the street, which is filled with cars. Janis finally spots a man holding a sign.
She whistles and motions the him over. He is a short portly man with a receding
hairline and an expression that makes him look like he is always smiling.
Good afternoon ladies. I'm Sebastian Crump.
Mr. Ford has sent me to pick you up
and take you to the hotel.
Well don't just stand there man,
get the bags and I'll get the broad.
Melinda's head is still spinning as they enter the back seat of the taxi cab. The
driver speeds off, weaving in and out off traffic.
TAXI CAB BACK SEAT - DOWNTOWN ATHENS
Is Miss Pappas okay? She looks a
little green around the gills.
It was her first time flying and
she hasn't gotten her sea legs yet.
You know how that goes.
Sebastian nods his head in understanding.
How long are you ladies staying in Athens?
We'll be leaving day after tomorrow and
then we will be heading for Mount Parnassos.
That's rough country. Not many
people go out in that direction.
Do you think Miss Pappas is up to it?
Oh, we'll make a man out of
her by the end of the trip.
Sebastian looks at Janis in a paculiar way.
OLYMPUS HOTEL - ATHENS
The taxi cab screeches to a halt in front of a four story hotel and they exit the vehicle. Sebastian pays the cab driver and signals for a bell boy to get the baggage.
Janis and Melinda walk into the hotel and to the front desk.
Can I help you?
Reservations for Covington and Pappas.
Ah yes. Dr. Covington, you are in
room 214 and Miss Pappas is in 224.
Here are your room keys. It's straight
up those stairs and to your left. Aldo
will deliver the bags to your room.
The desk clerk snaps his fingers and the bell boy starts up the stairs.
Dr. Covington, I'll meet you here tomorrow
morning and we will go to see Mr. Ford
Miss Pappas, I hope you feel better.
Melinda just looks at him and moans.
Janis and Melinda start up the stairs behind the bell boy. Janis' bags are dropped in her room and then they all continue to Melinda's room.
Janis puts the key in the door and opens it. Everyone walks in and Aldo sets the bags down.
If you ladies need any assistance, just call the
front desk and I will we happy to help you.
Aldo sticks his hand out and Janis tosses a few coins to him.
Thank you and have a good evening.
Janis helps Melinda to the bed and she collapses onto it.
Let me get a cold cloth for your head.
Janis walks into the bathroom, wets a towel, then brings it back and puts it on Melinda's forehead. She opens Melinda's bag and gets out her sleeping attire.
Here, put these on.
Janis, I'm sorry I'm such a bother.
Don't worry... After all, if it weren't for you
and the mouse, this story never would
have been discovered. Now get some
rest and you'll feel better in the morning.
Guess we should have brought the mouse too.
Guess so. I hear he handles
his liquor better than you.
Melinda chuckles and then relaxes, feeling comforted by Janis' rare display of compassion.
If you need anything, I'm in room 214.
Janis leaves Melinda's room.
